A section feeding apparatus (21) comprises a gathering chain (20), a hopper unit (30), a gripper mechanism (32) and a sword member (33). A gathering chain (20) has blade members (25). The sword member (33) is arranged between the gathering chain (20) and the gripper mechanism (32). The hopper unit (30) includes a stationary-side guide member (40) and a moving-side guide member (41). The stationary-side guide member (40) is so synchronized with the position of the blade members (25) that the rear end (2a) of a section (2) in the transfer direction may come to the near position just upstream of the blade members (25) when the section (2) is dropped from the gripper mechanism (32) onto the sword member (33). The rear end (2a) of the section (2) placed on the hopper unit (30) is regulated, irrespective of the size of the section (2), at a fixed position by the stationary-side guide member (40).
