The invention relates to a support system, although the application of the invention is in the provision of a barrier, wherein the support system is part of the barrier. The support system is also suitable for railings, storage systems, exhibition stands and display stands. The support system comprises a first component 10, a second component 18 secured to the first component 10 and a coupling arrangement for securing the first and second components 10, 18 to one another. The coupling arrangement comprises a lock member 20 secured to one of the first and second components 10, 18 by a crank (34 figure 4), and a socket 24 provided on the other of the first and second components 10, 18 and adapted to receive part of the lock member 20. The lock member 20 and the socket 24 are designed such that the lock member 20 can only be inserted into or removed from the socket 24 when tilted or angled relative to the socket. Later embodiments relate to a post and rail member, a socket for us in a barrier, and a housing assembly and a post for use in a barrier or barrier system. |
