A construction member 20 which is connectable to at least one further said construction member 20 and to at least one support member 30 to form a containment structure 10 for containing organic material, for example, material being composted, the construction member comprising a base 22 and a wall formation 21, wherein the base comprises a duct 25 for conveying fluid through the construction member, the duct being communicable 26 with the duct of the or each further construction member and with a conduit provided in the or each support member. The base in the duct may comprise a manifold. The duct preferably permits leachate to flow in one direction, oxygen in the opposite direction. Formations 27 may be provided on either side of the base to support the support member or floor, preferably allowing it to slope so that liquid therein drains under gravity. Tensioning means may be provided to secure subsequent construction members together, preferably comprising a tendon passing through apertures 29 in each wall 21. A roof 40 may be provided, the base and wall of the structure may comprise concrete. A hollow-cored support member which supports organic matter on its upper surface is also claimed, the upper surface has apertures which allow leachate to drain into the core. |
