<p>Producing a modified starch in genetically modified plants comprises: (A) introducing, into a plant cell, a foreign nucleic acid molecule coding for a protein with the activity of a GFAT; (B) regenerating a plant from the obtained plant cells; (C) if appropriate, generating further plants with the aid of the plants as described in step (b); and (D) extracting starch from plants obtainable as described in step (b) or (c). Independent claims are: (1) a modified starch obtainable by the method above; (2) a foodstuff comprising the starch of (1) or a starch produced by the method above, or a foodstuff comprising genetically modified plant cells or parts of genetically modified plants which contain a foreign nucleic acid molecule coding for a protein with the activity of GFAT and which contain a modified starch of (1) or produced by the method above; (3) a method of preparing a foodstuff, where starch of (1) or starch produced by the method above is added to a foodstuff, or where the method comprises using genetically modified plants or parts of genetically modified plants, which contain a foreign nucleic acid molecule coding for a protein with the activity of GFAT; (4) a genetically modified plant which contains a foreign nucleic acid molecule coding for a protein with the activity of a GFAT or of modified starch of (1) or of modified starch obtainable by the method above for the preparation of a foodstuff; and (5) a nucleic acid molecule coding for a protein with the activity of GFAT for the generation of a genetically modified plant which synthesizes a modified starch.</p> |
