A power tool comprises a motor 30, a cutting bit holder 32 rotatable about an axis, and a base plate 34, where the base plate is movable along the axis to vary the distance between the cutting bit holder and the base plate. The base plate is held in a plane and is adjustably mounted such that it is moveable in the plane relative to the axis. Preferably, the base plate only partially surrounds the axis of rotation, and the motor may be mounted to the base plate by supports 40 that are off-set with respect to the axis. The motor may be mounted perpendicularly to the axis, and the base plate may have retractable guide pins 60 that extend perpendicularly to the plane of the base plate. The base plate may include a straight guide edge 38, the straight edge including a notch 36 through which the axis of the cutting bit holder extends. The power tool may be a router, for use in cutting recesses in door jambs for hinges. |
