<p>In accordance with one aspect of the disclosure, the sail portion (17) of a sailboard has upper and lower sections, (18, 19) and the lower edge (foot) (21) of the upper section (18) is lapped relative to the upper edge (head) (22) of the lower section (19). Apparatus is provided to cause the lower edge (21) to be on the upwind side of the upper edge, (22) regardless of the tack that the boat is on. Such apparatus comprises a rotating boom (15) which rotates through the sail (17) in such manner as to shift from one side of the sail (17) to the other and also cause the above-described lapped relationship to occur in either tack. The disclosure further relates to a combination of the sail system (17) with the board, (11) to the method of achieving the indicated lapped relationship and of rotating the boom, (15) and to other important features.</p> |
