PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device and alarm display method which can enhance cautioning performance and legibility when using a display element consisting of a flat display such as a liquid crystal display element to display alarm. SOLUTION: The display device displays alarm depending on input information. In the device, control means 6 determines whether to perform the above alarm display or not based on the above input information, and when performing the above alarm display (time t1), it switches display/nondisplay of alarm display design 54 per first regular cycle T1, while switching brightness of light source 2 so that background area 55 may vary luminance per second regular cycle T2.
