Control method and apparatus for checking failure of a position sensor for a motor and performing failure-safe are provided to implement stable control of the motor by driving the motor only with a safe absolute position signal in failure. A control method for checking failure of a position sensor for a motor and performing failure-safe includes the steps of: receiving an absolute position signal and a relative position signal of a rotor from the position sensor when the rotor of the motor is rotated(S210); determining a first rotation direction of the rotor from the absolute position signal(S220); determining a second rotation direction of the rotor from the relative position signal(S230); and determining the failure of the relative position signal if the first rotation direction and the second rotation direction do not match with each other(S240,S260).
