PROCESS FOR PRODUCING BILAYER MEMBRANE AND PLANAR BILAYER MEMBRANE

A bilayer membrane formed with a microchannel capable of easily forming bilayer membranes, such as planar lipid bilayer membranes, in large quantities; and a process for producing the bilayer membrane. In the process for bilayer membrane production, either two liquid phases each containing amphipathic molecules or one liquid phase and one gaseous phase which each contains amphipathic molecules are alternately arranged in a microchannel. One of the two liquid phases or the gaseous phase of the liquid and gaseous phases is let out through branch microchannels formed in the wall on one side or in the walls on both sides of the microchannel. Adjoining parts of the remaining liquid phase are brought into contact with each other to thereby form a structure including bilayer membranes made of the amphipathic molecules and arranged side by side.
