<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lithium ion secondary battery capable of securing safety even in an overcharge condition or on an occurrence of short circuit. <P>SOLUTION: The nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery comprises a positive electrode 5, a negative electrode 6, a porous insulating layer 7, and a nonaqueous electrolyte solution. The porous insulating layer 7 is provided between a positive electrode mix layer 52 and a negative electrode mix layer 62, and contains material with no shutdown property. A PTC layer 53 is formed on the positive electrode 5 so as to extend substantially in parallel to a positive electrode collector 51. A PTC layer 63 is formed on the negative electrode 6 so as to extend substantially in parallel to a negative electrode collector 61.
