SOLUTION: This method for using a vegetable lactic acid bacterium Lactobacillus curvatus KN-40 comprises using a live bacterial cell and/or a dead bacterial cell of the vegetable lactic acid bacterium Lactobacillus curvatus KN-40 (accession number: NITE P-335) employed as a food material or a pharmaceutical material having immunocompetence upregulating actions and antitumor actions on the living bodies. Furthermore, a pharmaceutical comprises the live bacterial cell and/or the dead bacterial cell of the vegetable lactic acid bacterium Lactobacillus curvatus KN-40 (accession number: NITE P-335). A healthy food comprises the live bacterial cell and/or the dead bacterial cell of the vegetable lactic acid bacterium Lactobacillus curvatus KN-40 (accession number: NITE P-335).
