A prompt method of short message splitting comprises: a terminal acquires the data of short message splitting rules sent from each operator network to the terminal user in advance; the terminal calculates the number of the short messages acquired by splitting the short message that the user has editted according to the said data of the splitting rules and informs the user of the number. A prompt apparatus of short message splitting comprises: a splitting rule setup module, for acquiring the data of short message splitting rules sent from each operator network to the terminal user in advance; a calculating module, for calculating the number of the short messages acquired by splitting the short message that the user has editted according to the data of the splitting rules acquired by the splitting rule setup module; an informing module, for informing the user of the number of the short messages calculated by the calculating module.
