PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a moment around the Z axis which is generated at a connected section 63 between a carriage 5 and a timing belt 24 in an image recording apparatus which supports the vertical load of the carriage 5 by the horizontal surfaces of a flat first guide member 22 and a second guide member 23. SOLUTION: A pair of right and left third sliding protruding sections 60a and 60b in the carriage 5 come into contact with the third sliding surface 53 of an upstream side guide piece 23c in the second guide member 23. A pair of right and left fourth sliding protruding sections 65a and 65b which are urged by an elastically urging means being fitted in the carriage 5 are elastically pressed to a downstream side guide piece 23d which is greatly away on the opposite side from the upstream side guide piece 23c across a belt connecting section 63. Therefore, a force by which the carriage 5 tries to rotate around the Z axis is efficiently received by pushing to each other at the locations across the pair of third sliding protruding sections 60a and 60b and the third sliding surface 53, and the locations across the pair of fourth sliding protruding sections 65a and 65b and the four sliding surface 54.
