PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an improved optical recording medium improving recording and/or erasure efficiency when a short wavelength or low power excitation source is used.

SOLUTION: In the optical recording medium including a phase change material which can be reversibly transformed between a first detectable state and a second detectable state by supply of energy, a value of an optical characteristic in the first detectable state and a value of the optical characteristic in the second detectable state are different by at least nearly 10% at the wavelength shorter than 430 nm.
