PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a character conversion device for converting a character input by a writer, into a character within a range where others who are readers can decode.

SOLUTION: The character conversion device comprises an input means for inputting the character; a restricting means for selecting which data is to be used out of data of the writer and the others who are readers and restricting conversion candidate characters according to the selected data and the input character; a conversion means for converting the input character into the character within the conversion candidate characters restricted according to the instructions; and a display means for displaying the character after conversion.
