Intended is to prevent the operation feel of a brake pedal from becoming worse. Provided is a vehicle braking system equipped with an electric motor (30) for generating a wheel driving force or a regenerative wheel braking force. The vehicle braking system comprises mechanical wheel braking force generating means having a working fluid pressure adjusting unit (or a brake actuator (67)) for transmitting the pressure of the working fluid, as generated by the transmission of the operation pressure of the driver on a brake pedal (63), either as it is or as increased/decreased, to individual wheels (10FL, 10FR, 10RL and 10RR), thereby to generate a mechanical wheel braking force. Further comprised is external braking force generating means (or running resistance generating means (90)) for causing an external braking force other than the regenerative vehicle braking force by the electric motor (30) and the mechanical vehicle braking force by the mechanical wheel braking force generating means, to act on the vehicle. Still further comprised is brake control means (or a synthetic ECU (70) and a running resistance varying ECU (91)) for compensating the braking force corresponding to the drop of the conversion efficiency of the electric motor (30) into an electric energy, with the external braking force so as to satisfy the required vehicle braking force of the driver at the dropping time of the conversion efficiency.
