PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lighting system and an electro-optical device whereof dispersion of positional relation between a light source and a light guide plate is reduced, and assembling work can be easily carried out.

SOLUTION: This lighting system 50, 70 has the light source 51, the light guide plate 52 equipped with an end face and disposed face to face with the light source, and a holding frame 70 to hold the light guide plate. The holding frame has a supporting section to support the light source, and is equipped with an open structure to open the light source supported by the supporting section on the side opposite to the support part in its thickness direction. An elastic member 75 which protrudes from the supporting section 70b on the back side of the light source and energizes the light source to the light guide plate side by pressing from the back side, and the tip part of which is opened to the side opposite to the light source is fixed to the supporting section.
