PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transplanter in which the tip end portion of a seedling tray-returning device is forward extended, as much as possible, to facilitate a work for taking out seedling trays from a balk side and which can effectively use a space formed below a preliminary seedling-loading table to compactly receive a seedling tray-returning device which is switched to an attitude of receiving. SOLUTION: This transplanter 1 which liftably supports a planting device 6 having a seedling-loading table 10 behind a travel frame 2 and disposes a seedling tray-returning device 9 for conveying an empty seedling tray N, after the supply of a mat seedling to the seedling-loading table 10 from the rear direction to the front direction in a vertically placed posture in parallel to a preliminary seedling-loading table 7 disposed in front of a travel machine frame 2 is disposed with a front side box-returning portion 9a projected from the machine frame in the seedling tray-returning device 9, and freely receiving the front side box-returning portion 9a, in a space K formed below the preliminary seedling-loading table 7.
