PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cleaning technique for a fixing device which is carried out safely and easily.

SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus is provided with a control part (60) controlling execution of a cleaning mode for cleaning by removing toner sticking to a fixing member (421) and conveying a sheet. When the cleaning mode is executed, the control part carries out control so that pressure contact of a pressing member (423) is released before a leading edge of the sheet in a conveying direction reaches a fixing nip part and then the pressing member (423) is brought into pressure contact with the fixing member (421) after the leading edge of the sheet has passed through a nip portion.
