PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wavelength converting element which has a small decrease in wavelength conversion efficiency by reducing an influence of optical rotation property of crystal. SOLUTION: Rotation of a polarization plane caused by clockwise optical rotation by a right crystal plate 1 is reversed by counterclockwise optical rotation by a left crystal plate 2. Therefore, even when many crystal plates are stacked to extract more second harmonic, the polarization plane is corrected in cycles of a pair of the right crystal plate 1 and left crystal plate 2, so that interference of the second harmonic is reduced to obtain the wavelength converting element 10 having decreased wavelength conversion efficiency.
