PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain microemulsion satisfactory in stability when producing metal nanoparticles, and to control the particle diameter thereof. SOLUTION: When a first reverse micelle solution obtained by mixing a nonaqueous organic solvent including a fatty acid ester type nonionic surfactant of a polyoxy compound and a transition metal compound aqueous solution, and a second reverse micelle solution obtained by mixing a nonaqueous organic solvent comprising a fatty acid ester type nonionic surfactant of a polyoxy compound and a reducer aqueous solution are mixed, and the transition metal compound and the reducer are reacted, so as to prepare metal nanoparticle emulsion, as the surfactants, the fatty acid esters with different esterification degrees are used. Particularly, by changing the blending ratio of two or more kinds of sucrose fatty acid esters with the different average esterification degrees, the particle diameter of the metal nanoparticles is controlled.
