PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To generate a preheating pulse by precisely predicting the storage of heat substantially influencing a heating element until then. SOLUTION: A thermal head control device comprises a thermal head 4 which is constituted by arranging a plurality of heating elements on a line, and a thermal head control section 5 which generates the drive pulse for selectively driving each of the heating elements of the thermal head based on recording information. The thermal head control section comprises a preheating pulse generating means 9 which generates the preheating pulse for driving and preheating the heating element corresponding to a dot before printing timing for a printing object dot, and a basic pulse generating means 8 which generates a basic pulse for driving the heating element corresponding to the dot when the printing object dot reaches the printing timing. The preheating pulse generating means 9 generates the preheating pulse based on a dot pattern as a printing object among the plurality of dots positioned around the printing object dot and located in a dot row direction and a line direction.
