Provided herein are compositions and methods for producing transgenic pla nts. In specific embodiments, transgenic plants comprise a construct compris ing a polynucleotide encoding CCAl, GLKl or bZIPl, operably linked to a plan t-specific promote, wherein the CCAl, GLKl or bZIPl is ectopically overexpre ssed in the transgenic plants, and wherein the promoter is optionally a cons titutive or inducible promoter. In other embodiments, transgenic plants in w hich express a lower level of CCA 1, GLKl or bZIPl are provided. Also provid ed herein are commercial products {e.g., pulp, paper, paper products, or lum ber) derived from the transgenic plants (e.g., transgenic trees) produced us ing the methods provided herein. |
