The device has a housing (1), flowed through from an exhaust gas, a resonance device (2) arranged in the housing and a control device to control a part of an exhaust gas flow, flowing through the exhaust gas inlet into the housing. The resonance device has multiple pipes (3,4,5) with different length and different diameter. A control valve (8,9,10) is arranged in the interior of the respective pipe for opening and closing the pipe cross section and is controlled depending on the control valves of the other pipes and the pipe open out freely downstream in the housing respectively. An independent claim is also included for method for producing a definite exhaust gas frequency in an exhaust system.
