An aperture beam mask, in particular a shadow mask assembly 20, 22 in a colour cathode-ray tube, is mounted in a tube adjacent the screen by cantilever springs 25, 26, 27 secured to the mask and to studs 30 31, 32 on the envelope, and at least one spring, e.g. 27, is connected to the mask at such a distance from the radial axis of symmetry 44 that thermal expansion of the mask along the side transverse to axis 44 is compensated by thermal expansion of the mask parallel to axis 44 and of the spring which is at a predetermined angle to the mask, which expansions produce a resultant shift of the mask transverse to axis 44, see Figs. 5, 6 (not shown), so that there is no net change in the position of axis 44. As shown, all three cantilever springs are mounted in such a relationship with their respective axes of symmetry so that upon thermal expansion of the mask alignment of the centre of the screen is maintained and radially uniform misalignment of the mask and phosphor pattern on the screen only results, which misalignment may be satisfactorily compensated. |
