PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an improved means for producing a recombinant BMP and other TGF-βfamily protein in vitro by using a prokaryotic host and a eukaryotic organism host. SOLUTION: The TGF-βsuper-family protein is a component of latent TGF-βfamily member fused protein to refold under suitable refolding conditions, comprising a TGF-βfamily protein having N-terminal truncations, and the TGF-βfamily protein having N-terminal truncations comprises a TGF-βfamily protein C-terminal 7 cysteine domain comprising a finger 1 sub-domain, a finger 2 sub-domain, and a heel sub-domain; and a cleavable modified leader sequence operatively linked to the C-terminal domain. The leader sequence inhibits biological activity related to the C-terminal domain and the C-terminal domain comprises a leader sequence activated when cleaving a part or all of the leader sequence.
