A dishwasher and a method for controlling a water level of the same are provided to divide processes into a process of using a heater and a process of stopping the operation of the heater and to prevent overheat of the heater by varying the low water level sensing according to the operation of the heater and stabilizing the safe water level of the heater stably. A method for controlling a water level of a dishwasher comprises the steps of: starting a circulation operation(S100); judging whether a micro switch is off(S102); judging whether a heat is used(S104); stopping the operation of a circulation pump and the heater when the micro switch is off(S106); judging whether the first time passes(S108); judging whether the micro switch is off(S110); opening a water feeding valve and discharging water in a washing tank(S112); judging whether the second time passes(S114); opening the water feeding valve and feeding water into the washing tank(S116); judging whether the micro switch is on(S118); feeding more water(S120); stopping the operation of the circulation pump when the micro switch is off(S130); judging whether the first time passes(S132); judging whether the micro switch is off(S134); opening the water feeding valve and discharging the water in the washing tank(S136); judging whether the second time passes(S138); opening the water feeding valve and feeding the water into the washing tank(S140); and judging whether the micro switch is on(S142).
