An audio reproducing device and a control method are provided to detect an audio signal by forming a level control part for automatically controlling the level of an output audio signal in a predetermined range. An audio reproducing device comprises a level judge part(210) and a level control part(220). The level judge part judges the output propriety of an audio signal level by comparing the level of a reproducing audio signal with a set reference level. The level control part automatically controls the level of an output audio signal in a predetermined range according to the result from the level judge part.
