Disclosed is a method for providing evidence for the presence of Streptococcus in a sample, characterised by the steps of: inoculating a culture medium with the sample, wherein the medium contains a glycoside including an aglycone group, wherein the aglycone group is aesculetin or 4-methylumbelliferone, with which Streptococcus reacts to form a visual indicator detectable under short wavelength ultra-violet radiation.
