The invention relates to a process for the the sample preparation of biomolecules in biological samples prior to mass spectrometry, wherein the sample is subjected to solid-phase extraction (SPE) prior to MS analysis. According to the invention, the SPE extraction is carried out with a fullerene-derivatised sorbent material selected from the group consisting of silica and polymers, thereby enabling desalting and concentration of small peptides and phosphopeptides with high efficiency.
