The device has a side impact protection device (15) including head and thorax airbags (17, 18), where a passenger compartment of a motor vehicle has doors (5) with side windows made of glass in an area of side panels. The panels are made of a special laminated-safety glass with high-tensile plastic-interlayer. The protection device is additionally integrated at a side of the doors and a seat (7) and assigned to the side panels during vehicle rollover. The head airbag is arranged in an area of a grab (16) of the doors, where the thorax airbag is laterally unfoldable from the seat.
