A dance exercise apparatus comprises a base (see figures 3-8), a support column (see figure 2), a control module mounted on the support column, and handles 15 which extend from the module. The base comprises sensors to detect dance movements of the user, and the dance movements are scored by the control module. The control module also calculates information such as how many steps have been taken, total distance of steps, and number of calories burnt, and displays the information on a screen 1. The dance movements are performed to music selected using a control 5 and played through speakers 3 provided on the control module. A speed control 4 may also be provided for selecting the speed of the music. The handles 15 include sensors 17 for measuring the heart or pulse rate, with the results being displayed on the screen 1. The base preferably includes weight measuring means, and a voice control 10 may be provided for users with visual impairments. The control module may be wirelessly connected to the base, and the display screen 1 may be provided separately from the control module. |
