<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily obtain arbitrary retardation in any position in a retardation plate to be used for a display. <P>SOLUTION: The retardation plate 6 for display is to be used for a display comprising arranged pixels, and the retardation plate comprises a support 61 and a hologram recording material layer 62 provided on the support 61 and showing changes in the refractive index by irradiation with light.
