PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a finely porous membrane which is excellent in life characteristic and safety and is especially suitable as a separator for a storage battery or the like. SOLUTION: This finely porous polyolefin membrane is characterized by comprising porous island-like structures containing a polyolefin resin and fibrils for connecting the island-like structures to each other, wherein the fibrils contain the polyolefin resin and are substantially arranged in the longitudinal direction.
