PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a substance measuring apparatus for measuring a solution or a substance in a solution, and to provide a substance measuring method using the substance measuring apparatus. SOLUTION: In the substance measuring apparatus and the substance measuring method, a surface acoustic wave element equipped with an element-side electromagnetic field receiving section is employed, and the propagation state of a surface acoustic wave propagating along the surface acoustic wave element is acquired as an electric signal by an external electromagnetic field transceiving section disposed around a vessel containing a liquid to be measured. The surface acoustic wave element preferably has a substrate being a portion of a spherical body and having a surface including at least an annular surface acoustic wave propagation route which allows the surface acoustic wave to orbit and includes the maximum peripheral circle.
