PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve storing performance in a vegetable compartment of a household refrigerator. SOLUTION: This refrigerator has a means for keeping a high humidity state in a storage compartment, and comprises a pair of opposite electrodes 18 to which electric field is applied, thus dew condensation attached to a wall surface and food surface in the storage compartment can be removed without affected by unevenness in temperature and positions in the storage compartment. Further a supercooling state free from freezing of fresh water even in a temperature zone of 0 to -5°C is created by the application of electric field, thus the freezing of food such as vegetable and fruits which have high moisture content and significantly degrade quality can be prevented even when the inside of the storage compartment entirely or partially has a below-freezing temperature from 0 to -5°C.
