<p>It is an object to provide a recording/reproducing device and its control method comprised of an upper limit value capacity setting means for setting an upper limit value of a recording capacity of a storage device in each group and an erasing means for erasing contents data of a recording program in a group to which one program belongs in the case where the total recording capacity of contents data of the recording program in the storage device of the group to which the one program belong goes beyond the upper limit value by recording the program contents data at the time of the recording of its contents data, wherein the upper limit value capacity setting detects a capacity or reproducing output time of contents data of each group recorded in the storage device in a renewal period at every renewal period and sets an upper limit value of each group corresponding to the detected capacity or detected reproducing output time.</p>
