PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical device including an organic EL element capable of maintaining highly reliable sealing performance for a long period. SOLUTION: The organic EL element having a first electrode 2, an organic layer 6 including an emitting layer, and a second electrode 7, and a normal temperature glass film 11 covering the organic EL element are formed on one surface of a first substrate 1. A second substrate 12 is stuck via a sealing material 13 so as to face the normal temperature glass film 11 formed at a first substrate 1 side. A sticking surface of the sealing material 13 on the second substrate is made of at least a glass component, and both thermal expansion coefficients via the sealing material 13 can be set up to be almost the same. Thus, the problems such as exfoliation of the sealing material caused by stress distortion following heat generation of the organic EL element and cracks generated on the normal temperature glass film 11 can be effectively avoided.
