Wet paper carrier belt (1) having wet paper side layer (31) in which a resin and hydrophilic fiber material (30) are contained and machine side layer (32). Base fabric (33) provided in the interior of the belt consists of a laminate of first woven fabric (34) disposed on the wet paper (W) side and second woven fabric (35) disposed on a press roll (10) side. At least a portion of the hydrophilic fiber material (30) is exposed on the surface (37) of the wet paper side layer (31). The basic weight of the first woven fabric (34) is greater than that of the second woven fabric (35). Accordingly, an improvement can be made to the first function of conveying wet paper (W) with the same stuck to the wet paper carrier belt (1) and the second function of at delivery of the wet paper (W) to the subsequent step, smoothly detaching the wet paper (W). Further, any warpage of both end portions (E) of the belt (1) in run can be inhibited.
