<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a housing to be gripped by one hand to increase the degree of freedom in the operation, to enable operation switches which are installed on both of the top and bottom surfaces to be operated even under the gripped state, and at the same time, to enable the indication direction of a photographing apparatus to be intuitively recognized since the photographing direction goes in the longitudinal direction. <P>SOLUTION: This game operating apparatus (controller) 10 includes the long housing 12 with a gripping section 18. On the top surface 20, a direction switch 26 is installed, and a starting switch 30 and a selecting switch 32 are installed at locations closer to the rear side than to the direction switch. On the top surface of the housing, an X button 46 and a Y button 46 are arranged. The photographing apparatus 56 is exposed from the distal end surface 52, and also, is installed to be able to photograph the direction in the longitudinal direction of the housing.
