PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for selectively producing a 4-position enantiomer in a cross aldol reaction of pyruvic acid and indole-3-pyruvic acid. SOLUTION: An optically active α-amino acid containing a secondary amine and a metal ion are made to coexist in the cross aldol reaction of pyruvic acid and indole-3-pyruvic acid.
