PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simplify the construction of a lubricating device for a sewing machine by eliminating the need for a power source exclusively for a pump and to arrange a lubricating pump near various moving parts existing in the sewing machine. SOLUTION: The lubricating device 21 is provided with a piston 30 of a lubricating pump 22 which is opposed to an upper shaft 5 of the sewing machine in its proximity. The piston 30 is provided with a magnet 31 as one of a magnetic force acting pair. A magnetic eccentric collar 7 is provided on the upper shaft 5 as the other of the magnetic force acting pair. The device is so constructed that the piston 30 is driven by periodically changing the distance between the magnet 31 and the eccentric collar 7 in accordance with the rotation of the upper shaft 5. The position of the magnet 31 and the eccentric collar 7 is set so that they may have no contact with each other even when they are closest to each other. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
