The container has a protective gas supply unit and a ventilation unit. These are coupled to each other, so that the ventilation unit is open to allow escape of air from the container when the protective gas is supplied, and is closed air-tight when the gas supply is closed. The gas supply unit has an actuator device to stop the gas supply at a set time after begin of the gas supply. The actuator has a closing spring (16) and a damper e.g. pneumatic cylinder (17), acting on it. It also has a valve unit with ventilation and gas supply valves, which are coupled via a time switch.
