A center take-off rack-and-pinion steering apparatus (1) includes a cylindrical rack housing (33) having an elongate hole (34) extending in a longitudinal direction (U), a mounting bracket (39) for mounting ends (28b) of a pair of tie rods (28) on a rack shaft (14), and a slider (38) interposed between the mounting bracket (39) and the rack shaft (14) and slidable in an inner periphery of the elongate hole (34). The inner periphery of the elongate hole (34) and the slider (38) include sliding contact sections (34b, 38c) that are brought into sliding contact with each other along with the slide of the slider (38). The sliding contact sections (34b, 38c) include at least a pair of curved sliding contact surfaces (34b, 38c) that are brought into sliding contact with each other in a curved shape when seen in an axial direction (Xl) of the rack shaft (14).
