PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a simply structured starter device for an internal combustion engine which has a drive element and a driven element. SOLUTION: Contact portions 26 and 27 have a first spacing (a) between them, measuring in parallel with an axis 4 of rotation, at least in one circumferential location in first areas 29 and 39 of the abutment portions 26 and 27. The first spacing (a) is smaller than a second spacing (b) between both the contact portions 26 and 27, measuring in parallel with the axis 4 of rotation, in second areas 30 and 40.
