<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an illumination unit in which brightness of light-emitting faces is homogeneous regardless of respective arrangements when a plurality of units are aligned and used as light sources. <P>SOLUTION: The illumination unit 10 is equipped with a cold-cathode fluorescent lamp 11, an inverter 12, a base 13, and a cover 14. The cold-cathode fluorescent lamp 11 has at least one folded flexural part 111 in the middle part of a glass tube 110 of which the end part 112 of this glass tube 110 is aligned at one side. The inverter 12 is arranged inside surrounded by the cold-cathode fluorescent lamp 11. The base 13 holds the cold-cathode fluorescent lamp 11 and the inverter 12.
