PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tape cartridge preventing a recording tape from forming level difference or the like at the tape end plane, and configured with a simple process. SOLUTION: A recording tape 3 in which signals of digital data or the like can be recorded is wound on an external peripheral plane 9 of a cylindrical hub 5 of a reel 2. In the hub 5, a step 10 having a step wall plane 10a is provided on the external peripheral plane 9 of the hub 5. A step bottom plane 10b of the step 10 leading to the step wall plane 10a of the step 10 continues to the external peripheral plane 9 of the hub 5 along a winding direction of the hub 5 of the recording tape 3. In the recording tape 3, at least a part of a tape end plane 11a of a winding start end side of the hub 5 is opposed to the step wall plane 10a, the winding start end of the recording tape 3 is brought into contact with the step bottom plane 10b of the step 10.
