<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently perform a cross-linking reaction of a starch with sodium trimetaphosphate or with the combination of sodium trimetaphosphate and sodium tripolyphosphate. <P>SOLUTION: A process is provided for producing a starch cross-linked with sodium trimetaphosphate or with the combination of sodium trimetaphosphate and sodium tripolyphosphate.
