PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an X-ray image diagnostic apparatus which detects a position of an X-ray restricting means with a high degree of accuracy. SOLUTION: The X-ray image diagnostic apparatus is equipped with the X-ray restricting means 3 for variably setting an irradiation range of X rays by an X-ray shielding article to the X rays emitted to a subject 1 from an X-ray source 2, an insertion position detecting part 4 for detecting insertion position information of the X-ray restricting means 3, an X-ray detector 5 which is placed to oppose to the X-ray source 1 for detecting transmitted X-ray data of the subject 1 in the irradiation range, a display part 8 for displaying the transmitted X-ray data detected by the X-ray detector 5, and a detecting region specifying part 9 of the position of the X-ray restricting mean for computing a read-out address of the X-ray detector 5 from the insertion position of the X-ray restricting means 3 detected by the part 4. Moreover, the X-ray image diagnostic apparatus is equipped with a detection region thinning-out number setting part 10 for setting sampling points in the read-out region, specified by the computed read-out address, from the X-ray detector 5 and an X-ray restricting means insertion position detecting part 11 for computing insertion position information of the X-ray restricting means 3 to provide for image processing on the transmitted X-ray data by using pixel data of the set sampling points.
