<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus capable of smoothly and highly precisely obtaining a focused state by means of a hybrid AF. <P>SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus includes: an imaging element 106 that performs the photoelectric conversion of an object image; a light receiving sensor 116 that outputs a signal corresponding to a phase difference between object images making a pair; and a control means 115 that performs a first focus control to control the drive of a focusing member based on a focus estimation signal showing the contrast state in an image signal obtained through the use of the imaging element, and a second focus control to control the drive of the focusing member based on a signal corresponding to the phase difference.
